I have a Delta1010LT that is installed and use it for recording and playback. I would like to also install my SBLive! for it's SoundFont capabillity. What is the best way of doing this?

Also, how can I utilize the SBLive!'s DSP effects with both cards in the same machine?

Well, just install 'em both and cross your fingers....

For the DSP effects on the Live card, you can apply them to anything routed through the SB card, but not to anything routed through the Delta. Once you have recorded some audio you are always free to route it through either card.

I imagine you'll have latency problems if you try to record through both cards at the same time. with 8 analog ins on the delta this shouldn't be an issue. You can but a delta 410 giving you 2 more analog ins and a further 8 analog outs for the same price as the mentioned SB card from musiciansfriend.com. no latency issues and 10 in/ 16 out analog, plus the S/PDIF input for up to 24/96 digital input.

Trying to record through two disparate cards will not give you latency problems, they simply will not be able to share the same clock reference and so will drift out of synch with each other, enough to cause comb filtering and flanging.

Also, if he wants to use an SB Live to play SoundFonts with, then there's no point suggesting he get a Delta 410 instead. Besides, it sounds like he already has the SB Live...

Yes, Alchuck you're correct. I already have both cards. I really only want to use the SBLive! for SoundFonts and the Delta for everything else. However, I am having little success playing SoundFonts with Vienna with both cards installed. It tells me that my audio device does not have enough memory. I am asuming that's because it's trying to play the soundfonts with the Delta? Any pointers? Meanwhile, I'll continue to troubleshoot. Thanks for the input!

Sound Fonts get loaded into system RAM. The SB Live control panel software (Audio HQ) specifies how much of the system RAM it's allowed to use for this. For some reason the defaulkt is something rather small, 2 or 4 or 8MB. So you wouldn't be able to load any larger ones.
