Are the preamps in the Delta 1010lt worth a crap?

They only apply to the balanced/xlr connectors, correct?

Are they easily "disabled", or would it always be a case of running one pre into another if I wanted to use my DMP3 in conjuction with the Delta?

Is there a similar PCI card that has no preamps?

I guess I don't mind them being there, if I'm not limited to them.

i can answer one of those questions: yes, they apply only to the xlr inputs. i haven't used them since i need phantom power with my mics so i can't say anything about the quality of the preamps.

So you use the unbalanced RCA inputs?

*EDIT* The difference between the Delta 44 and 66 is digital I/O?
They appear from the description not to have preamps...

What's digital I/O, exactly? How is the 44 less useful?

yeah, i only use the unbalanced inputs, it suits me fine. I'm not too concerned with the difference in quality between balanced and unbalanced, basically if the song is good i'll forgive recording quality. a lot of my favourite recordings sound like absolute crap. or maybe i've listened to way too much indie rock and my standards for audio fidelity are lower.

I've always just used the RCA, never bothered with the preamps or the XLR inputs.

Ditto. I hook them all up to channel inserts on a mixer and use the pres from the mixer---six matching (albeit not so great) pres....

you can turn the 1010lt's pre's off...you have to set the jumpers....but im not 100% positive
