heres a silly question-
does anyone know if there is a way to control volume output of the delta 1010 other than within the maudio delta control panel?
or is that the only way?
if it is, it doesnt seem to be functioning very well.

You're going to want to control output levels with an analog fader of some sort....a small mixer might be in order.

I run my outputs directly to an integrated amplifier which allows me to adjust volume, but eventually I'll get a decent power amp at which time I'll probably pick up a mixer or slap a couple faders together.

Using the digital controls in the m-audio control panel isn't recommended because software can steal control of the volume knob and you could very easily wind up blasting your system. Not to mention that digitally decreasing output and then reamplifiying it might not be such a great idea sound-wise.

Slackmaster 2000

Doesn't your software tracking program have volume controls in it? That would be one way to control it.

Generally however, I would agree with Slack. I use the volume settings in my tracking program to adjust the balance between the tracks - but use my mixer to set the listening volume.

i guess it looks like imgonna have to dish out more $$$ for a mixer now. i use sonar and i used to use the delta66 omnistudio card. now im kind of confused with the 1010 because its got a different setup.
damn, im almost out of $$$ now....

also,
i dont know if this should go in this forum but.....
in sonar, it shows 8 channels for inputs, but only 1/2 for outputs
what am i missing? shouldnt there be 8 channels for outputs also?

I am almost sure that you can select which output you want each track to go to in sonar. You can do it in logic.

About the volume thing, why dont you just use the volume control on the amp? Let me guess, its dual mono and you dont like messing with your balance.

I probably open my control panel 30 times a day. I am constantly adjusting volume there. I am also opening it to mute the main speakers so that they dont bleed into the mics.

Anyhow, an easy way to do this is to send one copy to the desktop and one copy to your toolbar so that opening it is always only just one click away.

"why dont you just use the volume control on the amp? "

i dont understand. what do you mean by that? what amp are you talking about?

the little speaker icon that used to be on my taskbar is no longer there.

in sonar, it shows 8 channels for inputs, but only 1/2 for outputs

You probably need to set up more virtual mains - or to assign the virtual mains properly.

With the Delta 1010 you should at least get 5 output choices 1/2, 3/4. 5/6. 7/8 and SPDIF.

Make sure you have 5 virtual mains set up in Sonar, and then assign them as above. You can hide the ones you don't want to see using the Track Manager.

spacedye,
I feel that you confuse two things.
First you should have M-audio mixer, which is installed when you install Delta driver. It should show 1/2, 3/4. 5/6. 7/8, SPDIF ins and 1/2, 3/4. 5/6. 7/8, SPDIF outs. If its not there, something is wrong with your Delta setup or driver.
It is a totally different story, what you get in Sonar. I don't use Sonar, and don't know exactly how it works, but it appears that you need to enable required ins and outs somewhere inside this program.
In Nuendo, for example, I need to activate necessary connections. I use three synths, so I have ins 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 active. At the same time I don't need more than 1/2 out, so all other outs are always disabled.

ok,
i reinstalled driver for the 1010 and now it is showing all of the outputs. my virtual mains is set to 10, i didnt notice what it was set to before the reinstall of the drivers. but anyhow, what im not sure of is when i set the output in sonar to be channel 3/4, then in the delta control panel/patchbay router i select wavout 3/4, why am i not hearing anything?
but you know what, i just noticed that the volumes werent up and that did the trick.
i think i have it working now.
WEBSTOP- i dont see anything that says M-Audio mixer. are you refering to the delta control panel?

actually, when i change the output within sonar to 3/4, i dont hear anything. it registers within the delta control panel in wavout 3/4 and in the master volume, but i dont hear a thing.
anyone got any ideas?

i got it......
the monitors werent hooked up to outputs 3/4 in the back of the delta. its all coming together now.....
man, some days if my head wasnt attached.......POOF!!

Yes, what I called M-audio mixer is in fact called Patchbay/Router. It is the one that sits in you control panel, so we were talking about the same thing...
