Delta 1010 Questions?

Im thinking of buying the Delta 1010 but am wondering about 2 things. How does it compare to Edirols 2496, ua1000, motu 828m2 and pro tools 002. I know everyone has there own opinion but any creative opinion is priceless. How would they rank from 1-5, 1 being the best. Next is an arguement with a mate of mine. He says the Delta 1010 records 10 individual tracks at a time, but how does it do this if there are only 8 1/4 inch inputs. Please settle this. BTW i know its a 1010 meaning it 10 at a time but how??
Also the other gear is p4 2.8g, 80g harddrive @7200, soundcraft mixer with 8 direct outs and sonar 1( to soon be upgraded to 3 ).
Any thoughts, opinions and reviews of the 1010 would be greatly appreciated.

It has 8 analog inputs, S/PDIF (digital) input, and a midi input.

the S/PDIF is digital stereo (2 tracks). These can be used to record into in conjunction with the 8 analog inputs giving you a total of 8 mono analog and 1 stereo digital. However....if you have multiple 1010 cards you have to link the S/Pdif ins and outs to sync them together so you're back to 8 ins n outs on each linked card.

I have a 1010 in my system linked to 2 delta 410s all linked via S/PDIF for a total of 12in/24out very stable 3ms latency on my P4 3.0Mhz system running win xp.
