delta 1010 question

I just installed a delta1010 and was transfering a live recording I did saturday night on my ADAT recorder. When I transfered it using the -10db switch, I got a very crisp sound, but there was some clipping, despite that there was no clipping on the adat(it never went into the red). Then I transfered it at the +4db setting, and the clipping was gone, but so was the crisp sound. You can hear what I am saying if you listen to the song - Linda's Mother is a Junkie take 1 and take 2. I posted both settings. The rest of the songs on this session are at the +4db setting as well. Am I stuck to using the +4db or am I doing something wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
