anyone else see this piece of junk?

Got my drivers installed to find that there's no longer a patchbay and it's missing at least half of the functions the old version had.. extremly disappointed with m-audio.. i'll see if i can get used to this but hell i might just get a new interface.. maybe go back to firewire now that i have the computer for it.

Do you really expect much else from M-Audio? While I like their hardware, I can't say I think much of anything else about them. Especially when it comes to drivers. There are flaws they are aware of that they can't be arsed to fix and they have made that quite clear, and their customer services is downright rude. Fuck 'em.

Little story about M-Audio. When I got my Delta 44, I had a SATA setup in my PC. I installed my new card, and it worked perfectly. The next day, all sound was mired in static and anomolies. even playing an MP3 was fucked up. It actually sounded like a warped record. After a while of trying all manner of things - from rebuilding Windows 3 times, to manually assigning IRQ's (which involved reinstalling windows in itself in order to be able to do that - I called M-Audio's customer services. OK, I'll admit they were my first port of call, but the time I spend on hold led me to try and find my own answer.

So I get on the phone to customer services. A Glaswegian guy answers. Quite relieving to me, because I was expecting to get through to someone in the Middle East or Nigeria. And no offense to them, they are just doing a job, but I can't fucking understand what they are saying. Anyway, I explain the problem to the guy. He asks me if I've looked at my buffer settings. Obviously yes I had, that was the first thing I did. Went through the usual troubleshooting. Yes it's plugged in propery. It was working properly at one point. I asked if I could send it to them to have a look at. He said no. And that if it wasn't working it wasn't anything to do with a with the card being faulty. His reason for this was rather fucked up. He pretty much explained that their hardware doesn't develop faults and that it was 100% that if there was something wrong, it was either me or my computer. That annoyed me.

So then he asks me to go through my system specs. I do. As soon as I mention that I'm running SATA, he explains that "that's it. It's your SATA/RAID". He explained that he had heard of problems with M-Audio running on SATA/RAID. I told him I beleived it to be incredibly likely as it was working fine yesterday. He said it was irrelevant and that it was definietly my RAID. So I said "so you telling me that the Delta 44 does not fully support SATA/RAID". He said "pretty much". I said "well to be honest, firstly, I don't see that written on the box anywhere, and secondly, is this not something M-Audio should perhap look into. SATA/RAID is somewhat of an advancement over IDE, and for audio, people are going to want to use it."

His response was "Listen mate. M-Audio make the best fucking drivers in the world and the best fucking audio hardware in the world. If you computer is running a shitty RAID setup that won't work with our hardware or drivers, then that's not our fucking fault. Now I suggest you take yourself to a computer shop, buy an IDE hard drive and see for your fucking self, because I guarantee you that it's because you fucked up when you put your computer together."

I ignored all the profanity for a second and said "and if it's still screwed up with IDE?"

He said "well I guarantee you we won't be replacing or fixing your audio card for you, because your audio card isn't faulty".

I said "well in that case, fuck you very much for your time. Now may I suggest to you that if you are incapable of doing your job with out firing a barrage of profanity at the customer, you get a job as a fucking sewer attendant, where the rats, and the shit that I am sure you are already so used to wallowing in couldn't give a flying fuck how many cuss words you throw at them. In fact, (at this point I started shouting) I would start looking now, because by the time I have finshed with your complaints department, you are going on the fucking breadline."

OK maybe I was little over the top at him. But it boiled my fucking blood.

And that is the story of how I have lost all respect for M-Audio.

wow

that sucks... I've never had to deal with their customer support.. my 1010 is okay.. I'm not overly impressed with it to be honest.. I got much cleaner recordings with my firepod but I'd never deal with presonus again after their shitty customer service.. "oh you live in canada.. well then we can't help you" I think i'm gonna save up and get something by motu.. i've heard good things from them...

i just dont believe it. and if it did, i would be willing to bet a reasonable amount that m-audio would take measures against him if they knew. also, there are much better avenues for revenge than a lowly internet forum.

of course, never say never; i have personally seen worse.

I'm done with MAudio. Had a good run with them but it was time to move on. I was ready to improve sound quality and they never took off from the 1010 and built anything better. The market they want to be in is the lower end of prosumer stuff. Nothing wrong with that but I wanted to move up. I bought one of the new Yamaha N12 mixers and the first thing I did was listened to mixes (And ref CD's) between the 1010 and the N12 and whoa! What a difference! Not even going to try and explain it with all those words like warmth, clarity, air etc etc but I'm only talking about the converters here where the Yamaha has some amazing pres on it. And that's where MAudio just hasn't grown.

I checked out their NRV10 and was totally unimpressed. From what I heard there is no way they are using as good of converters in it as the 1010! If they are then the clock or something is messed up or just not the same circuit design.

Maybe MAudio is good to start out with but eventually you may want to move up the chain and they simply don't have anything up there.

And then the Vista driver debacle. I'm not even running Vista but I have been keepingn track of what companies keep up and MAudio failed. They have too many products to support for the size of the company IMO.

You heard that big of a difference between converters...............?

But you mention pres...so...I'm confused.

Wow - that's amazing!
I would have gotten the guy's name and put in an official complaint.
You may have got some compensation or some free stuff!

M-Audio were a great home recording gear company...then Avid/Digidesign bought them and they went down hill fast.

I said I was talking about the converters in listening to source material and yes there is quite a difference. But how do you explain in words what we hear? It's more open, it's more clear, the lower end is better defined, the mids come out...what can I say. You can get 1010's modified and the reason for that is the entire circuit path is just not top notch. But for $400 it's still a good interface.

The pres are a different story. The pres in the N12 are better than anything Yamaha has done to date and all I can say here is they are sweet!

Sorry about the confusion, should have made to more clear.

oh i know exactly who you were speaking to i have spoke to him too.
except i had too delta 1010's that would not power up the racks every time i switched on the computer ,he told me that the power supply i had was not powerfull enough to power up the racks their was nothing wrong with their hardware it was all my systems fault.(load of bull was using a 550watt power supply)
bought a new power suppy 650 watts put up with both the racks for 6 or 7 months doing the same(could have saved myself another £90 because a cretin can not do this job)
rung m-audio in america and the guy told me it was a micro switch problem in the racks and very common when asked if it was anything to do with the power supply told me deffernintly not
rung england m-audio the following morning spoke to a different guy (oh send the racks back they are faulty)got money back never used m-audio again

went to motu and never been happier

so i wonder how many other customers he has lost m-audio ?

There's a ton missing unless it's hiding somewhere else..

here's the biggest problem..

this is the old driver and the main part that's not there in vista

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Feb02/images/maudiodelta410screen.l.gif

I couldn't find a screen shot of the vista driver but there's not as many options.. first off you no longer have the -10, 0, +4 option (it's replaced by a tab that has the options professional/prosumer then you no longer have the sliders.. I found alot of the time i'd have to turn the sliders way down if i'm running something really hot.. I guess i should be too quick to judge.. I haven't recorded anything yet so maybe it'll run smoothly but at first glace i don't like the new drivers..

Keep us posted. Right now my 1010 is just a backup but it could see action again. And I will go to Vista eventually unless I get an iMAC/:D

it's not just the vista drivers.

New driver updates were released a few weeks back for all the Delta hardware range on all platforms and they all have the same new GUI

HORRIBLE!

well that sucks evan more..

I'm thinking i'm gonna save for a new interface anyway.. not overly impressed with the 1010

Although i have liked everything i've bought for m-audio, i think i'm done with them at this point. I really don't like how they still sell things that had already been around for awhile when i started buying equipment (5 years ago), sell them like they are new products, with little to no updates, etc. That and the fact i'm not looking for budget stuff anymore. I think they make great quality for the money, it just seems like they are starting to slip a bit while other companies are making affordable (although less affordable) products that are innovative.

i always had really good luck with my Delta 1010 under XP running the older drivers.....in fact, i'd say that it was ROCK SOLID.

although i admit that their support pretty much sucked when i had problems with the MobilePre (i briefly owned) bluescreening my laptop. i do BSOD analyses at work (part of my job), and the analysis pointed at the M-Audio driver. i sold the mobilepre......but never had a single problem with my 1010.

the sound of the 1010 is greatly improved with a decent clock. i clocked mine with an Apogee MiniMe and it really opened up (and softened). but that said, my motu 2408 mk3 runs sonic circles around it.

cheers,
wade

Well, I've used my Delta 1010 for years... and had nothing but issues with it from day one ;) I went from a single unit, to three... multiple units worked ok for a while, but started kicking off.

Had to get the caps replaced in 2 of them - 1 of those is still a little dodgey, but works ok.

I've recently upgraded to a RME Hammerfall HDSP9652 and 2 x Presonus Digimaxes, which I can't wait for. Still waiting for them to arrive, and my PC is still blue screening when I use the Delta 1010s :|
