Delta 1010 dilemma

A few months ago I had a vicious computer crash that required repairing the registry. A real pain and not a real quick fix. My system was down and I was forced to go out and purchase a backup system. I eventually got the original one back up and running, but the thought occurred to me that this could be a major problem if the crash occurred in the middle of a session. Especially one I might be charging for. Then I thought a backup soundcard would be a good idea too. I have a Delta-1010 and I figured that if I had a spare PCI card for it, I could keep that permanently installed in the backup system. That way, in the event of a crash, I could just swap the Delta host cable and keep going. I'm using a firewire drive as backup for my audio data these days and I could swap that too. With this in mind, I called M-Audio/Midiman, asking how to go about getting just the PCI card for the 1010. I was told that the card is not sold separately. I replied that I thought that Midiman had misjudged their customer base as companies like Frontier and MOTU use their PCI cards as the core of their systems and that they could be purchased separately. This was an opportunity they were missing. I also thought they must have a supply of these on hand for repair/warranty situations. Anyway, if anyone has a PCI card they want to sell, or any strategy I haven't thought of to acquire another one of these, I'd like to hear it. I've seen them on Ebay, but not very often. Thanks.

I think it's pretty uncommon to see one on ebay. I saw someone selling JUST the 1010 breakout box and the auction said that it's impossible to get only the pci card.

Why DOES m-audio do this?
