I just purchased the Audiosport Quattro for use with my Dell Inspiron 4100. In concurrence with information i had heard here and elsewhere, Dell's I/O is a bit sluggish and there is (though minute) a slight hum at certain frequencies. Anyone know of some tricks to speed up the USB? Anything i can remove/disable/push - i'm running XP if that makes a difference in this case.

This may not be what you're looking for, but it helped me. Here's a link to a site with more links all about optimizing XP for audio performance. A lot of it is redundant, but there's lots of tricks and tweaks to "trim the fat" and make XP run quite a bit faster.

"dell" and "optimization" are mutually exclusive terms.

I have a Dimension XPS 450 (OLD, I know!) but I got a huge increase in performance by wiping out the system drive and doing a fresh install of Win2K. That got rid of both Windows 98 as well as a ton of extra cr*p that Dell installs.
