Hi, am I missing something...?
Have Sonar XL 2.0 and when I use the Fx Delay I can only get 720 ms delay (+
the fine 14.5)
However, I checked the help because I thought it was a bit too short for
such a great prog, and there it says you can have up to 5000 ms, that´s more
like it...
What have I missed?
TIA

No, you're not missing anything. The 5000 refers to the other delay (just called Delay). The FxDelay only goes to 720.

If you don't have the other Delay, it's probably because you didn't install it when you installed Sonar. I believe the default install does not select the old Cakewalk effects, you have to explicity tell it to install them. You probably can still do it by using the install program again and just selecting those effects to install.

Thanks, for the info... Yes, I do have the Delay/ Echo. However, it can´t seem to be used when making envelopes in a track, like an automated mix. I just wanted a really long delay on a couple of words...without having to do it destructevly.
Hmm, I could maybe use it on an aux bus, those can be automated, just got the idea while writing this...
I´ll try that.

Sorry, it's not possible to automate the old effects...

Yeah, you could try putting it on a bus and automating the sends/returns. It won't let you vary the timing of the delay, but you should be able to control the wet/dry (or on/off if that's what you need).

I've been meaning to play with that approach myself as a way to automate some 3rd party plugins I have. Let me know how it works if you try it.

It works, but the echo/delay will fade away when you fade the bus to 0.

I found that the best way, was to make a new track (clone track, then delete the clips that shouldn't be "delayed") where you add the delay as an insert effect. But that's just me... ;)

I tried it with the Delay/ Echo but the aux won´t take mono effects... However, having seen the about the free dB-T tempo delay, I downloaded that, put it on Aux bus 2 and made an Aux bus 2 send envelope, works as a dream. Great!

Just another note, this is probably well known, but I have somtimes played with copying words in the vocals, putting them on a new track and using the grid to move them a certain number of beats. Then one has complete control over every echo, like if you want a special effect on the third repeat, or whatever.
Then using a volume envelope for the echo fading out...
