I'm very afraid I might have slightly over-compressed ... particularly the drums. Did I?

Oh - and I'm a keyboard playing bass ... on the actual guitar thingy ... not on keyboards. My fingers are freakin' killin' me!! Should I stick to keys?

What's the consensus on the synth tone at the very end of the piece? Any good? Does it fit?

Any and all comment warmly graciously welcomed!

Thanks!

the snare does stand out a bit, but i think the drums do have a kinda nice sound to them. relative to the song tho, they seem quite 'dry' in terms of reverb you've got going on elsewhere.

sometimes the vocals seem to get a little buried.

your fingers ARE gonna hurt, bud. took me about a week or two of solid playing to develop the hard skin on the tips of my fingers. what you wanna do tho is to check that you have your guitar properly set up, so that youre not pressing unnecessarily hard on the strings to sound notes/chords. look up 'intonation'. i DEFINITELY wouldnt recommend giving up. keys and piano just bring something equally good to a song, so it's good to have both tricks up your sleeve. just bear with it a bit, it WILL get easier.

the air-raid siren thing at the end was cool. there are alot of moods and changes throughout the song, so it doesnt seem out of place.

Cheers

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Mark! I used to have callous fingertips, back when I was gigging regularly, but they've fallen into disuse. So now, when I launch into a concentrated effort, I pay dearly. The currency is pain.

You make a really interesting point about the dry drums ... I have a bit of reverb on the snare, but the rest of the kit is very dry. I'll have to play with that a bit and see what I come up with. I, too, thought I may have mixed the snare a bit out front, but I love the soft "shadows" of the hit the drummer is doing, so I wanted to bring them out a little ... maybe I brought them out a little too much ...

Thanks for the insights! Really appreciate it!

what a ride...that was really enjoyable. Sounds great here...maybe bump the vocal just a bit when it's heavily effected...Oh, OHHHH...can you bump up the volume of the delay on the synth part at the end? Hehehe...I understand that that's a pretty specific and selfish request, lol...BUT TRY IT

OH ONE MORE THING, lol...

That part where the drums are solo'd, maybe you could slap some reverb on the drums just during that part...they sound good dry in the rest of the song, but when they're alone, they just seem kinda' naked???

This is really good.

Hey Chris!

I added reverb to the drums and tweaked the vocal. I also tried to deepen the space around the snare a bit to blend it better. I thought both yours and Mark's comments were dead on.

THANKS dude!!

I'll post up the changes a little later.

Best,

Kev-

FYI ... changes uploaded.

Any thoughts/comments???

Thanks folks!!!

Some nice recordings on that Better off Dad page

Cool stuff you got going there, reminds me of a mixture of late pink floyd and some krokus.

As far as the technical aspects, I would personally recommend completely getting rid of the sax solo... it's obvious it's not a real sax and that section (in my opinion) diminishes the quality of the rest of the song--and really I'd say it's the only thing setting this recording apart from something a lot more professional sounding.

Good job on the rest, I'm really diggin it.

Monkey Allen - There ARE great recordings over on the B.O.D. site. Thanks for stopping by ... :D

Steel- Everyone complains about that sax solo --- so I think I'm going to excise it and maybe replace with a guitar part? Thanks for the insights!!

Best,
