Dedicated DAW?

Just a simple question for anybody recording on their home PC and/or Mac. I was wondering what distinct advantage there is to keeping your DAW totally dedicated to recording. The reason I'm asking is because I have both a desktop and notebook w/ comparable performance, but I use my desktop for many different apps, while I hardly use my notebook. I am looking at either putting a audiophile 2496 in my desktop ($150), or purchasing a USB/Firewire interface to add to my notebook (Approx. $300) and totally dedicate it to recording. So my question is: Is it worth the extra $150?

The notebook is a bit more portable but the pc and audiophile is a better deal.

Thanks for the input, guys. I've decided to go with the PCI card in my desktop, since portability really isn't a factor for me. I think I'll use the money I'll save to buy another stick of 512; that should help.
