Well, well. Like most of the messages i've read on here, i'm not the only one who is swooned by endless sales talk about a good product and have trouble sticking to my guns.

Basically I had my mind set on the Delta 44 card by m-audio. Now i'm making some second guesses at things i've read on here and in magazines.

Here's the scenario...

I'm basically recording jazz.. when it's not jazz, it's usually in the mould of fusion jazz or something with that,

"i want it clean and big and sparkling and give me a pro sound that NOBODY CAN DENY, not even me!"

so, the delta 44 seems a good choice to my way of thinking. I don't want to record lots of tracks at once... I multitrack them all that's what i'm comfortable with. 4 inputs is enough for recording a guitar amp, Acoustic, voice etc!

But, Alas!!!

what about drums ???

Drums are VERY important to my music and i fear that 4 mics wont be enough...(crap, it wont be enough will it!) Sure it's better than one room mic today, but down the track i'm sure i'll whinge about the lack of presence that i get on my drum recordings.

So, what to do ?

buy two delta 44's ? buy a mixer ? Buy the omni studio package ?

the omni studio i have considered because of the mic preamps.. that's very attractive...phantom powered mics infront of your voice or acoustic are always going to sound better than battery powered mics.

but the omni comes with the delta66, which only has 4 inputs also. This means desk.. and desk i'm not too keen on, i want to keep it on my pc.

i could always try the m-audio 1010...???

so my question to all you kind people is... What's the solution to getting a card that keeps it in the pc, has phantom power and lets me get enough inputs for drums ?

Thanks a million,
Rory.

Take a look at the Aardvark Q10. Aardvark has a long history of making quality products and the Q10 looks to me to be one of the most versatile out there with 8 mic pre's (4 with phantom) combo inputs (XLR & 1/4") and the last 2 inputs are also designed as guitar inputs with some special circuitry added to "jazz" up the sound of that instrument.
Check it out here:

q10

wooooo.. that thang is AWESOME! Thanks for that info mikeA....

i think that could be the answer.. and then a little more. The only query i have would be... how does it run with an amdxp1800.... what's it like in the way of ease of use, because, i'm all for it.. but if it's got endless things that i wont use, they'll just be there to confuse me in the end... and what o/s would it like... nt ? anyone ?

also... without sounding too snobbish and ELITE... this thing supports 24bit/96k recording rates... yar ?

*ponders*

The Q10 gets high praise from those on this board who use it. (You can do a search for Q10 in this forum and read other posts related to it. My search returned 42 posts.) I don't have one yet but hope to in the next 2-3 weeks. It's what I am planning on getting for my church. The PC I'm going to build will be centered arond an 1800XP. The Aardvark website lists that drivers are available for Win 2000/XP, Win 95/98/SE/ME but it doesn't say anything about NT. You can go to the downloads page for the Q10 to see the list. As far as 24/96, alas, no. It has 24 bit converters but the highest sample rate is 48k. I wish it would too, but for my intended uses it's not going to be a deal breaker.
Hey Rassoodocks, you got any stuff posted that we can hear?

BTW, here's another link for theQ10 from Aardvark's site that gives some screen shots of its control panel as well as some deeper explanations.
