I'm lookin for a descent sound live, and studio. I want more of a modeler because I want to be able to customize the sounds that I want for certain riffs/parts of my songs.

Alright, i've semi made a decision on the Vox
Valtatronix. This thing soundp sretty damned good, but
its for the most part solid state, and 60 watts at
that. Would it be loud enough and clear enough? Is the Fender Cyber Twin any good? I here mixed reviews.

How do line 6's sound live?

Im thinkin of gettin a Fender tube and line 6 pod, but
i'm not sure if that'll sound that good.

Please help me out, because i only have so much of a
budget.

Are Line 6's and the vox valve that bad live?

Please help argh i feel so stressed about it (usually
new gear is really fun) and i found a beautiful tele
btw. Maple necks rock.

Mesa rectos, Bogner, VHT, Soldano, some fenders TUBE TUBE TUBE

buy a tube amp. period. Spend the most on the amp you can afford because a bad guitar in a great amp sounds decent but a great guitar in a crap amp sounds like crap. This does not mean do nto buy a quality guitar, just that the amp should factor higher. Avoid that modeling bullshit. It is like rack gear that came and went. Most of it will jsut sound bad.

yea your quite right about tubes.

The thing is the Vox is part tube (for a change) and sounds quite nice.

I recommend you buy whats going to lose the least amount of money when it comes time to sell. I'd go with a tube amp.

Also, if you buy vintage you can usually sell for a profit.

I have been using my POD for a while, and I get compliments on my guitar sound... Most recently recently From the Engineer/Owner of a local studio here in Hamilton, Ontario...

I vote for POD.

Wanna hear my POD....

Hey Vox,

Heard your stuff before. As said before I like it too. I was wondering if you record your bass direct. Either way, what are you using. I am still looking around for a direct recording solution like I feel I have found with the POD (For guitar that is) as well. Thanks in advance,

DarkAngel,

Hey. I think you may be looking for two different things. Like Vox said, the POD for direct stuff. It works Ok live with a nice amp, but you still need a nice amp. Also, though there are nice amps out there that some may recommend, you may want to play all of them. Each person may recognize a certain tone that they enjoy and feel fits their music best. I played through a Matchless for a while that I liked alot, and belive it or not I played through a Crate Vintage Club (Tube) for a bit that I thought worked well for the genre. Too very different amps and wayyyyyy different price ranges. Good luck,

Im running a 1978 Fender Jazz Bass, directly into the front of my Digi 001 Breakout box....

No inbetween direct box, or any effects... Just from the bass directly into the front of my Digi...

I use a decent amount of compression on my bass, and no eq whatsoever....

The bass you hear on my songs, has not been eq'ed at any stage...

Oh, and part of my bass sound is the fact that I use dead strings on my basses...

I hate the Jangley sound of new strings..

I also play with a pick... But rather than a big thick bass pick, I like to use a very thin pick that sort of bends everytime you hit the string...

Im just used to that... I guess all I had was a thin pick way back when I started playing bass, and just used it and got used to it..

I Find the the thinner the pick is the more "boomy" the bass sounds.. (which is a good sound)..

The thick pics, seem to give a midrangey sort of sound....I don't like that..

Im not sure if thats a normal occurance, but *I* notice that with my set-up...

Anymore questions, just ask here or email me.. Im glad to offer insight...:)

Thanks Vox,

I appreciate the explanation. It sounds nice. I am still working on the bass tone. I've tried direct into my Studio 24 Board to ADAT, without much luck. I also went through my POD. That worked a bit better, but still lacked something. I am looking at a Sansamp Tech21 for Bass. I think that may work for what I am looking for. Thanks again. Keep it up.

hey

yo gidge, i own a boss gt-3. Yea i should probably get a tube, eh?

The boss gt-3 sucks, i'm sorry. At least through my crate. It makes this cracklin noise, i dunno if its cause i got it busted offa ebay or what, but it was listed as fine.

How does the gt-6 compare?

any recommendations? Would ANY effects processor sound good through a tube? Cause i do really wanna customize my own sounds for different parts (variety).

Always good advice.

I let value do my deciding for me, within reasonable limitations.

Look for a fantastic deal on a reasonably serviceable amp.

My main amp is an "Evil Twin" that Guitar Center had on one-day closeout for $599 brand new, right out of the box. These were fine amps, but the price was what decided me. The same trip got me a new Princeton Stereo Chorus for $199.

I'm sure there are other amps that may be better, but sure not for those prices.

...keeping alive for gidges answer.

Anyone tried the fender chorus?

I tried the CyberTwin about a year ago and didn't like it for heavier sounds. I went with the Johnson JM150 Millenium and have been quite pleased. It's like a J-Station times 10. My next purchase will likely be a Mesa Triple Rectifier but I doubt if I will get rid of this Johnson, it's great. Oh, I got it off of e-bay for less than $800 including their J-12 foot controller -very nice accessory!

yea that looks really good

I bet its expensive though.

Argh i really wanna try a johnson amp.
