Decided on my rig, what do you think?

Please tell me up front what you think...Don't hold back I can take it (I'll cry in my beer on this side of my monitor, but I can take it.)

Portastudio 424 mklll (tascam)
dual well CD recorder (TDK)
PreSonus Blue TUBE Stero Mic Pre-Amp 48v phantom, 8-segment meter
(2) MXL 990cardoiod Condenser mics 30Hz-20KHz 130db max.

I can get all of this new for under $1000. It will all stand alone without having to upgrade my PC or buy any other equipment...I think. What do you think?
 
I think it's a great setup. 4-track Portastudios are fun, and the 424mk3 is very nice

Don't forget a pair of SM57's.;)
 
Good start. And you won't have to have the customer support number next to your phone either.

Don't forget cables. Later, invest in a good compressor and effects unit.
 
As for cables, I have been playing music (Singer/keyboard/frontman in a classic rock band) since I was 14, I"m 41 now. I have cables coming out of my but same goes for the 57's, 58's and some akg's
 
If you have to get a dual mic pre for under $200, make sure to consider the M-Audio DMP3, and the Aphex 107 (discontinued).
The Aphex 107 wasn't really designed for line level inputs, and only has XLR in's though. Either of these will offer much cleaner sound than the "Blue Toob", and I seem to recall that when it was
tested by a pro engineer, it fell short of the full 48v phantom spec.
According to Dot (Dan Richards), the Behringer Ultragain for $99
is supposed to be best in the ultra-budget class.
Personally, I have a tough time thinking of Behringer as an option since their customer service is almost non-existant.
If you can spend more than $200, I'd be happy to give you more options to consider like Studio Projects, etc.

Also, you may want to research the Studio Projects line of condenser microphones that have a good track record at offering good sound on the cheap, and their customer service is second to none.

our band has a lot of behringer equipment and have had no trouble with it Where can you get the Tube ultragain for #99.00? I see in in musicians friend for $199.00
 
Evidently there are two models of the Behringer Ultragain Pro for sale
there. This one is the "MIC 2200". According to Dot, it's superior to the
M-Audio Audio Buddy dual mic pre. (and it's $99)

u need effects unit reverb unit and compressor man
very important to have !! as im guessing that i dont have either yet but i have a similar recorder like urs 424mk11 ur s 111
whats the difference ?
in mine u can plug both 1/4" guitar cables and regular mic cables dunno what theyre called
 
The differences between both 424's are well explained on the
