Decent Deal on Powered Monitors

Ive been preparing to upgrade from my Tannoy Reveals (passive), and pretty much decided on Roland's DS8. Checked everywhere for price comparison, and almost clicked the "BUY" button at Musician's Freind for $499 ea. This is about the same as everybody else, but I figure if I keep buying stuff from them, maybe they'll let me win one of their give-aways someday!

Anyway, at that moment I heard my neighbor yell to his mutt, "Hey Sam!" just as an ash fell off my smoke onto my foot, burning my toe! Sam? Ash? Holy crap, it's a sign! A message from....well...a message from the guy next door... and my cigarette!

So I click my way over to Samash and what do I see? They're blowin' out DS8s for $324!!! I give them a call and ask if they'll do free shipping. Dude says, "If you buy right now, I'll blah, blah, blah.." They're also doing 15mo no interest right now!

Bottom line: a pair of DS8s for $648, free shipping @ $43/mo with no interest.

Now, are these monitors worth a crap? I dunno but I can't pass up a good deal.

Geta, I don't know about the passives, but 2-3 of Roland's active models received really terrible reviews in Future Music mag's recent (winter 2005) "blind monitor shoot-out", conducted by a group of industry pros. The review was split into different price points and spread over 2-3 monthly issues. Rolands were the bottom of the heap. Maybe the passives are better.
