I had a chance to visit a pretty high end project studio, meaning high end gear with not so exciting projects like voiceovers and etc. Anyway, I went into the tracking room and the first thing I noticed was, it's SO QUIET!! I felt like as if I was in space or something, and then I clapped my hands, and it sounded like the room sucked out most of the sound, and my clap seemed real small:confused:

Is this the so-called "Deadened Room"? It was an unusual experience, I can't imagine any instrument sounding good there without adding some reverb later.

Al,

A totally dead room is appropriate for voice-over work, where you really don't want any ambience. But for recording musical instruments a little more life is always preferred.
