This was a fun one to play and I think my mixing is getting better...a little anyway.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome as always.

Brown-Eyed Woman

Great Song. The Dead played it with a swing and a quicker tempo but this relaxed interpretation of it is good too. I would like to hear it with a little less verb on the vocal. But, nice!

Great choice of tunes.

I've recorded this one several times over the years but the vocals always came out as crap :o:D (and that usually doesn't deter me...hmmm, odd).

I was psyched to check this out having heard your peggy-o a while back. This is a similar production...mellow, but pretty tight. You have the kind of ghostly (double tracked?) vocals going on, and the guitar parts are way stripped down, but tight and pleasantly retro sounding.

I like that you resisted the urge to try to sound specifically like the dead, while still retaining the spirit of the original. Thanks for sharing :).

thanks for all the comments guys.

Heat: I did double track the vocals on Peggy-O but this one only has single track for lead....the chorus however has 4 layered tracks.

Oh wait. I think I did end up with a double layer on the lead on this one. Hadn't intended to originally but I had already done a mix down and realized that the lead was too soft.

I had saved the first 6 tracks before mix down but was too lazy to go back and boost it, mix down again then integrate the other tracks I had.

yeah, I'd like to hear this with the vocal retracked. There's a big disconnect between the vocal and the other tracks; they are not in the same space. Too much effects on vox and dry on guitars, drums, etc. Also, the vox seem dark and a little more high end would work well.

Performance is great, you've captured the feel of this song nicely. Not too many people covering Dead tunes around here. you and Heat are maybe the only ones so far. So I enjoy them when they come along. Thanks for sharing!!
