Learning, always learning
I'm looking into getting a dbx 2231 dual graphic eq and it has type III noise reduction functionality. Anyone experienced with type III? Thoughts? Opinions? I'm looking at this unit to add to my chain inline with my reel to reel (Pioneer RT-909). I know the 128 (type II) is a highly sought after unit, but I can't find one locally and would really like one that is rack mountable, hence the 2231.

dbx III

As far as I understand dbx III is not designed or intended for use with analog tape but rather to extend the dynamic range of certain dbx equalizer hardware up to 20 db. dbx III is contained within the equalizers circuitry and is not available for use as noise reduction for other equipment.

Well.............crap. I guess the 128 is pretty much the only option for tape noise reduction then. Don't mention anything Dolby because it sucks. I don't guess the 128 was ever offered in a rack mount model was it?
