I have a Tascam 424 MKII and was wondering what your opinion is of the dbx noise reduction function. I know a lot of people claim that they don't use any noise reduction because it can kill some frequencies. Yeah, you may get a quieter recording due to less tape hiss, but the overall sonic quality is what they like so noise reduction be damned.
I never use Dolby NR on my 2 track mixdown but was wondering how dbx rated vs. Dolby in this respect. In other words, could dbx be worth using while Dolby is not? I plan to do some experimenting on my own but it never hurts to get some feedback on what others have experienced. (If I'd never come across this bit of advice..., "...if your deck is high-end enough to offer Dolby NR, then the deck itself is good enough. DON'T use the noise reduction!..." then I might have still been using NR on my mix-downs.
Thanks!
