first pic is of the two cables for the dbx unit
second is the pic of where they are on the back panel
now the round connector is attached to that panel and it has a slide in connector that fits on the main board. the last pic has it's attachment point and is labled for dbx unit.
the other square connector goes up and connects to the green board in the photo that is next to the flywheel, not sure how much deeper i'll have to go to get a shot of that but i know i don't wanna tear into too far.
is that what u needed to know?
i have the actual manuals and schematics too
i ended up with this machine as part of a package deal

forgot to look in the manuals, pardon my blabbering about,
square cable is the remote hook up for the vari speed kit
which mine has, round connector is for the dbx unit.

hmm.. one of those connectors looks just like the one attached to my Tascam DX-4D which is modded already. It is the one on the first page that has the 4 prongs and then the two prongs? I'm kind of lost as to which are for DBX ad which are for the varispeed though? mine does not have varispeed.
If I could use that cable from the DX-4 that would help a lot.

I see that one side of the cable for the DBX is the circular connector but what is the other side that hooks to the tape machine? I don't see what that connector looks like. or which one it is in the pictures. My problem is not having the cable or either of the connectors. and since the DBX looks like it hooks up to the machnie via a PDB male socket it will be much harder to rig or "emulate" the cable.

This isn't looking good. Maybe theres a place where I can get one of those female PCB connectors? they look like something that could be picked up somewhere as a universal connector.. but that circular jack for the back of the DX-8 is definitely a longshot. If I had that PCB connector

Is there a schematic for how one of those cables is put together or are they already put together that way? I'm going to take some pictures of what I do have that may help me set this thing up. If it does not seem possible I may just re-sell it and get two more DX-4Ds

I think I may have found the odd circular 11 conductor cable that goes into the back of the DBX after some google searching. I will definitely have to look into this thing.

however the other end of the cable that attaches to the PCB I cannot find. what is that type of connector called? I have found some of those PCB sockets inside of my non-functioning Dokorder 7140 (AKA piece of trash). They could be used for fitting to the PCB on the 80-8? I have no plans to ever get that deck functioning again so parts can be taken from that. It has a dead solenoid on the brakes a busted belt and NO audio passes through it.
If I can get cables connected to BOTH sides of one of these connectors it may work. The one that you guys took pictures of has solder joints for cables for both sides of the connectors these don't seem to be like that and I cant find any that do. There are some DX-4Ds on ebay right now but maybe I will be able to work this DX-8 thing out.
EDIT: SCORE! I found a PCB socket that has solder joints on both sides of the socket. I had to do some digging through the Dokorder to find one but I think this one will work for me
EDIT II: Great Success!! The PCB socket that I found fits on the 80-8 perfectly! Some of the contacts will not be used since the connector is bigger than the PCB on the 80-8. It will hang off the side a bit. but it should work just the same. I think I am going to use some lengths of Ethernet cable and telephone wire that I have lying around to solder onto the connector since they have 8 and 4 insulated conductors respectively. Think there will be any problems with that?

I have improvised the one side of the control cable that hooks up to the machine. here are some pictures.
Soldered CAT 5 cable
You see some of the contacts are not used and hang off of the side of the actual PCB. but all of the others line up just right. It fits nice and snug on the board.
Since the CAT 5 only has 8 conductors I had to use a second one for the last 4 cables and I marker it with blue cable to let me know which set it was. Now.. I think I am going to buy one of those 11 pin circular connectors and hook the other end of my crazy cable to one of those, but for now I would like to test and get used to using the DBX using just the stripped end of the cables stuck into their respective sockets. Anybody think they can help me figure out which cable goes where?

This is what is shown for the connector on the 80-8 PCB. Do you think the numbering pattern on this (D1, DB, D2, DC etc) indicates which is the top and bottom contacts for the socket? I think If I can have this confirmed I may be able to finish hooking this up.

Bump. I'm completely lost here. This is the only forum where I think I may be able to get help with this. Can somebody take very close up pictures of what their 11 pin circular connector looks like? or make sense of the little snippits of schematics I put up? Also.. can the DX-8 function without the control cable where you switch between encode and decode manually? I got audio to come in and out of it last night, and pushing the buttons for encode/decode on the DBX did something to the sound. everything seems kind of muffled right now. but the swithing via control cable is still not working.
I'm really excited about having a completed analog setup with 2 machines and dbx for both but it's just a matter of getting them set up. I didn't think it would be this difficult
