Hello homerecordists,

I'm planning on buying a DBX ddP. Has anybody some experience with this unit. What do you think of the sound ? I know it's not easy to edit and that's a big drawback. I want to compress seperate tracks but I also want to try some mastering with it, is it any good for this ?

Thanks.

Ginz.

I'm not familiar with this particular unit... but the description on the dbx site makes it sound like it's a combination of the Quantum (without multiband dynamics) and the 376 channel strip (without the tube)... I own both.

The quantum is a good solution for mastering, but primarily because of it's multiband capabilties... I don't think that ddp would even come close in it's mastering capabilities, and it's not what it was designed for.

I still have the 376 only because it's resale value is too low for me to part with it. It does the job... a bit thin sounding... but clean. There's better out there for less money...

I used to own a DBX Quantum and the compressor sounded pretty good on it. I think the DDP is going to be similar. The Quantum was very easy to program, so I would expect the DDP to be not too complicated either, although I haven't used one.

I've had a DDP for years and like it very much. So much, in fact, that I bought a second unit. I find it easy to program. As others have mentioned, the Quantum would be better for mastering. I bought the DIO option with the first one and use the DDP as my primary ADC, with a bunch of math behind it.

Dbx DDP

I also have a dddp for about the last 4 yrs, I use it a lot on guitar parts and some voals. It has some use good use.

Ok guys,

Thanks very much for the replies. I guess it's not ideal for mastering because it's only a single band compressor. I'm going to buy it to treat separate tracks. I hear a lot of good stuff of this unit so for 350$ I think I can't really go wrong.

Thanks again for your input.

Ginz.
