dbx 786 mic pre

Next month I'm doing a 3 day remote recording of a local band and wanted to rent some decent mic pres for use on guitars and possibly some drums. The place here I deal with only has one decent pre: the dbx 786.

Is this thing fast enough to track guitars/drums with, or is it mainly suited for vocals? I would like to rent from this place, but if the 786 isn't the right tool, I'll have to look elsewhere.

depending on budget i would look for mabyee an avalon or a universal audio or a great river mp2nv. they are worlds above the dbx.
