What does everyone think about the dbx 576 Tube Mic Pre-amp/Compressor. Is it noisy, good sound, what?

I've never played with it, personally, but I have used the 386 and 586, which are pretty much the same thing. I like them (the Silver series) on some things, but not on others. It's pretty hit-or-miss, but for the most part, I've heard better for the price (and cheaper).
If you do a search on RAP, you'll notice a lot of the guys there aren't very big fans of the silver series.
