Is one better than another? Certain differences in characteristics it adds to the signal, etc? Any thoughts/experiences that anyone has on these two preamps would be great. Thanks.

EDIT: Is the Joe Meek rackmountable since it's just a half rack length? Is there some sort of adapter I can buy?

I use a DBX 286A for voiceovers. Decent pre-amp.
The low/high frequency detail is very usable.
Compresor offers drive and density.
De-esser works very well.
For $200, I like it.
A lot of radio stations use these for their mics 24 hours a day.

I have a ThreeQ that I like very much. The pre is clean so you don't have to add lots of 'colour' if you don't want to. There are screw holes in it for rackmounting, although I haven't racked it yet so dunno exactly what you need to do so.
