I've always wanted one of these graphic eqs with a limiter and type 3 noise reduction. Just wondering if anyone uses or has used one and what they think of it. I thought it might be a good tool for mixing down with seeing it's got the encode/decode NR on it. Or maybe the limiter and NR are unneccesary and just a good graphic eq would do?

it's fine eq. some "golden ear pros" think it sucks... but what else is new ...heh heh ;)
Just in case you actually decide to buy one - take time shopping on e-bay ... this may save you 200 bucks or so... I actually 've seen them $280 with BIN option. Do you really need NR for a final mix?
Also the tape is pretty good limitor :)
if you buy one... post here, so to know how do you like it.

The major problem with all graphic, dual mono eq's is that almost all of them introduce phase shift into the signal which can kill your stereo imaging. Great care must be exercised when setting them.

I have heard and played around with many graphic eq's over the years and one of the best sounding ones I have used are the models from Audio Control, which was a USA made line of ten band eq's that were actually geared to the home user with standard -10db, RCA pin jacks.

You may also want to consider doing your mastering eq in the digital realm on a computer equipped with a decent 31 band eq plug in or also consider making use of a mastering engineer to do things right on his ultra high end gear and experienced ears. ;)

Cheers! :)

..and I'd have to add here, if you do one or the other, then in both cases Great care (or better say - caution) must be exercised !... as well :)

I like that idea Ghost.

Thanks for the replies . Because I'm sorta iffy on it I probably won't spend my money on it. I thought maybe type 3 NR might be a useful thing to have but maybe it won't be and I think Zee you're right. I don't think I really need it. My goal is actually to simplify and use the same basic stuff for everything so I know it well. I wouldn't want to add any more confusing elements.
