DAW's- Tascam vs Korg??

I've been researching digital stand alone recorders for a while now. Am ready to make the switch from the Tascam 424 machine I've been using for the last couple of years. It seems to come down to the Tascam 788 or the Korg MK 12 to me (for my price range and needs). I'll be using this machine mainly as a song writing tool and to produce demos. Fairly simple needs, don't think more than 12 tracks would be a general need, but who knows, you always want more right? so maybe a 16 track is worth considering as well. Just wondered if anyone out there has personal experience with either of the two I mention here or other ideas of moderately priced really good digital recorders.

Definately Korg D1200 Mk.II (you could maybe get a MkI cheap; only difference is the colour and faster burning speed).

The Tascam 788 is getting very long in the tooth. The Korg D1200MKii is $999.00. You may also want to consider a Fostex VF160EX (16 individual tracks, 8 at once, very stable) for $899.00
