Well, I've finaly finished a full song with all instruments and vocals! :D
Please let me know what you guys think.

It's "Orchestral Black Metal".
I still have 3 other songs to add vocals, so any comments I'll keep in mind when I remix it...

Dawn of Sorrow (demo)

Here's the cd cover If anyone wants to see it.

Everything is done with GuitarRig2 and Reason.

A little info, this is a one man band (me), Hadrian (from the band Sakrefix) does the black and death vocals.

Thanks in advance!

hey I like your stuff man. I play similar music. My favorite bands are summoning, burzum, nortt, mithotyn and many other doom and ambient black metal bands. You definately like cradle of filth I can see. I like them too :)

I posted a song on here a little while ago without vocals. I don't know if you heard it or not. I'm working on another one. It takes me forever to write something. I really like your cover art? Did you do that? Keep posting your stuff, I like it. Sorry I can't be really helpful but i'm really new to recording.

hm. let me guess. you are a guitarist, e?
bring the drums forward or guitars down. there are just guitars everywhere. for my taste they are also too trebly.
also the string samples you use cut out too artificialy. work a bit on releases and it will sound much better.
try to soften the vocals a bit. they sound too harsh IMHO.

otherwise, good start.

I really like everything about this except the riffing guitar sound & the vocals. The former is just to genre generic & that latter is too funny for the music.
Apart from those it's well done.
A bit too Linkin Park meets Smeagol on Quualudes though.
Honestly, the song's really good, as are the arrangements & the lyrics are well written also. I guess it's just me then. I just don't like bog standard dial up another one digital distortion & being an old headbanger who still listens to the 1st 5 Sabbath LPs, I can't take DM vocals seriously - couldn't take Ozzy's either but he had a sense of humour about himself.

Thanks!

Great, thanks for the comments!
I took a lot of what was said into consideration and remixed it.

Dawn of Sorrow (demo) take 2 :)

It's less "loud" now though, but I think it sounds clearer.

If you hear anything else please let me know...
Thanks for improving my song!

Not really my thing but enjoyed it and thought it well put together, loved the little piano break 1:41. I would consider effecting the string/violin as they sound really synth'sed. They come accross like they're trying to sound like the real thing but they don't. I would either put some effects on to space them up a bit or plump for good orchestral plugin.

Pretty cool song. Bring the vox up just a little. Really liked the rest....good drums, and guitar sound. Nice tune.

The second mix is much better, but I would still bring the drums up a little more as well as the vocals. The guiatar is mixed well with the piano and strings. Great song!!

Sorry it too so long to chime in, my 'puter here at work was acting up yesterday.

Love the song.

Please list equipment and how it was recorded.

Thanks for the response guys.
Unfortunately I tried raising the vocals but when the singer recorded the vocals he had his speakers loud and it recorded the music with the track. When I raised it higher then it doesn't blend very well (since the tracks he was recording too sounded different then these).

Here's the equipment list, etc:
Guitar->boss SD-1-> GuitarRig2->Sonar
Bass->GuitarRig2->Sonar
Drums and all keyboard sounds were made with Reason.

I re-wired Reason inside of Sonar to record eveything, it's very easy to change the drums while the guitars and bass are playing with it.
I don't know what equipement the vocalist had to record the vocals.
I recored my 'talking' part with AT2020 plugged into a little Phonic (mu 502) mixer plugged into my (m-audio audiophile) soundcard.

Nice remix.
Real string would be the ultimate addition though Mellotron would be a pretty bloody good pentultimate addition.
I know it's a bit quieter but it's less Linkin Park as well.
I like the lead solo sound but still haven't an affection for the general guitar sound.
My wife really likes this.
I wouldn't tweak the levels at all - everything sits comfortably UNLESS you want to create additional tension.
Have you ever though of recording a "straight" vocal just as an experiment?
I reckon it'd be worth the effort. Your spoken voice in sonorous enough to do it if the vocalist isn't keen.

...

quick listen at work....vox seemed way too low. reminded me of a COF newer song. nothin' wrong with that. cool keyboard stuff.

Bear with me because though it's in rotation on my "other" computer, I am not sure who it is.

Is it Daargard that is heavily Tolkien incluenced?
If so, I think that's who this song reminds me of.

Keeper.
