Seagate HD in a desktop - 2 weeks before I was due to hand all my final work in for my sound engineering course

Three out of my four dead drives this year have been Seagate. I just lost a WD a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully, the dodgy USB case manufacturer (who only offered a 1 year warranty on a product that died after 13 months) apparently used a retail WD drive, so the warranty extends to 2010 on the mechanism. The replacement arrived today....

Two out of my four dead drives this year have been 500 GB Seagate drives. That's a model to avoid like the plague, IMHO. We'll see what happens with my 2 TB Maxtor external (dual 1 TB in a single enclosure) and my 1 TB Seagate external that I'm using for backup drives (the latter of which replaced the 500 GB WD that was my former backup drive)....

Hmm. Let me just say that 500 GB appears to be a bad number for me. :D

TWICE in the last 8 years. Both times it was my recording drive. Maxtor drives both of them. I back up to external and print each project to DVD's to be double safe these days.

Yes I have, 2 weeks ago or so.

However, this is from a PIII 500MHX 512MB RAM DAW I built for cubase 3.7r2 in 1997...

So I'd say 11 years wasn't to bad

:D:D:D
