DAW Controllers

What do you guys think of controllers like Mackie Universal or Yamaha 01X?

Do they really offer anything more than the ability to use your sequencer without a mouse? I admit being dumb about these
things so I wanted to see if anyone here was using one. They seem to be very expensive. Are they worth it?

I don't have one, but if I ever get into pc based recording, I'd definately get a control surface. I can feel my wrists getting "carpal tunnel-ish" just with occasional mouse use. I don't think they're that pricey because you're also getting A/D converters, sometimes a stand alone mixer, and sometimes recording software. For me, I would just consider it the price of admission.

well the mackie universal isn't a standalone or a ad converter....but the control surface is just to give people a more 'real' feel of mixing...instead of looking at computer screen all the time
