Hi guys, wondering if anyone has some ideas on DAT machines. i I have previously used protools and logic for recordings, yet recently purchased a nice tascam 38 8 track 1/2 inch machine , and really want to maintain the analogue sound right up to mastering. i figured that a dat machine is probably the most cost effective method, ideally i'd get a stereo studer or revox 1/2 inch but don't quite have the funds.
are they what i'm after? should i maybe look at an adat?
i'm leaning toward a tascam DA20 to keep it in the family, but are there otheres i should consider?

thanks in advance for any input
cheers

A DAT machine is a digital recorder..not analog..1's and 0's on tape..you would be better off with a CD burner at this point.IMHO..Good luck :)

The only DAT machine worth getting at this point (IMHO) is the Tascam DA-40. It records in 24-bit.

On the other hand, at the price point of the Alesis Masterinlink, currently selling for around $800 - Much more flexibility, and cheaper and more reliable CD-R media.

Plus, any mastering studio worth $0.25 has a Masterlink, or at least a DAW that can read the CD24 format (nothing more than 24-bit AIFF files with a TOC).

Add to that the ability to trim the heads & tails, high sample rates (up to 96kHz) and SO many fewer moving parts...
