Hi does anyone know how to convert a dat file to a wav? i recorded on my daw and then backed up the project and all the files are ".dat" and i want to put the tracks in cubase for easier mixing/mastering. does anyone know about a converter i could use?

How did you back it up? If you used a backup utility, you might have to un-back it up using the same utility.

i did back it up. um the files are all like 10 mb. the songs isn't very long. what do yo mean unback it up?

Did you use a backup utility? If not, HOW did you back it up?

what i want to do though is put them on the computer and convert them to wav files, so that i can edit them in a computer program.

You HAVE TO restore the data from the backup, and then you will have the wav files.
Use the program you backuped it with!

It is impossible to convert some dat files from a backup program to wav. Its like having a zip archive and trying to get the files out. you have to unzip it.

10 megs per file is pretty small for an audio file. One individual wav (at 24 bits) on an average tune will range between 40-60 megs depending on song length. Are these MP3's or some sort of data compression technique?

Alright, we need much more information.
1. What DAW are you using?
2. What backup program are you using?

If your DAW is a stand alone recorder (like a Roland VS1880), you will need to export wav files instead of using the backup utility. The backup discs are in a format that only the recorder can use.

yeah i'm using a zoom mrs 1044cd. i decided to burn each track individually so that i could edit them. its a stand alone recorder
