Hi Forum

This is my attempt writing a blues lyric. I've written lots of bluesy instrumental things but never a lyric. The words are below and this is the link to the mp3. www.soundclick.com/bands/2/musicallymrmmusic.htm Click on the link for "Damned Wrong" :)

I went the "roots" production route on this one. Used 4-track tape and analog processors (a Radio Shack Stereo Reverb, an old Pioneer Dynamic processor) SM-58 for a mic (no compression), and used a friends Bassman amp for the guitar. It's amazing what you can get out of old bits and pieces that you store in the attic. Take a listen. Comments are hoped for and welcome.

Damned Wrong !
Words and Music by Archie S. McLeod III
Musically Mr M Music Ltd.

Verse 1

Don’t eva’ want to feel pain
Don’t want no heartaches
Ain’t givin’ up nothin’
But all I give, I’m sure you gonna’ take

Ain’t put in no work
Ain’t no love have you saved
You ain’t givin’ me nothin’
Everybody think you got it made

I know you thinkin’
The words that I’m singin’
Is just another sad song
Damned wrong; you’re so damned wrong.

Bridge 1

Taking advantage of love
Is a bad thing to do
‘Cuz Love don’t Love Nobody
And it’ll turn around and hurt you
Your drivin’ me mad, breakin’ my heart
Wreckin’ my life; Makin’ me, makin’ me
Cry all night long..............

Bridge 2

Drivin’ my Porsche
Got 5 rings on each hand
Burnin’ up all my minutes
On my Alltel Freedom plan
24 numbers
On the Caller ID
24 destinations
And not one brings your love to me.......
Verse 2

Come on in baby.
Take a load off your feet.
It’s been 7 days since you left me
Sit on down; Grab a bite to eat

See that’s all i have to give you
‘Cuz love don’t live here no more
And my “new babygirls” layin’ in your bed
She done rocked the hurt right out the door

Life is for livin’-You
I ain’t forgivin’
And this ain’t no Keb Mo’ song
You’re wrong. You’re So Damned Wrong

Vamp

Be Gone, Oooo be gone
Leave my heart alone
Oh Leave it alone
You’re So wrong
Ohhh, so so wrong
Damned Wrong

Hey Mr.M,
Overall recording sounds a little rough, but you've got some skills and with a some proper tracking this would be sweet.

I like the roughness to it. It sounds like you are playing live is a seedy bar somewhere. Really nice! The only thing I would like to see is more treble. Everything seems so mid-y

nice tune. Recording is pretty good. I give you a 6.5 out of 10

Thanks everybody for the listen and the comments. Points are well taken. "Roughness" and a "Live" feel was what I was shooting for really. I could have taken my AW16 or my Pro Tools Rig/Mac and made it ultra-clean and "over-processed" but I was really looking for that Spring records, Stax Studios sound of the 60's-Early 70's sound. Raw and not encumbered with expensive mikes and processors. Man, a lot of those early studios consisted of no more than one take, three tracks and muscians who knew the songs. That was the type of feel I was trying to capture. :)

Well if that was what you where shooting for than you did a great job.

Thankee. Thankee. :) I'm gonna' be posting the instrumental to this this evening. I'd be interested in a critique of that mix. :)

Cool cool tune. Seductive guitar riffs. I dig it alot. I like the recording too. I would enjoy hearing the drums brought forward......just a tiny bit. It would even drive more. Man, nice work. I don't even like the Blues, but you got me on this one.
