Hi everyone, I have the oppurtunity to buy a used D2424 Fostex with the DVD ram drive and a second HD and cage and caddy and the remote extension cable for about the same price as the New D2424 LV.The question is what would you do? and does anyone really know what the difference between the two Models is?

On the spec sheet the only difference seems to be the ability on the D2424 to select reference level between -12/Db and -20 Db.This is not on the D2424 LV spec sheet.I have read on 3D audio Bulletin board that the DAC is different can anyone confirm this.I want to use it a studio setup and not as Fostex stress for live recording. Any thoughts,it just seems too cheap to be true!?
cheers mike.. :)

The D2424LV is as studio as it gets. It got the "LV" because it has 24 ins and outa ALL balanced. That is why you can switch between -10 and +4.

The D2424 LIKELY does not have these options. The "LV" moniker was put there tp tell the otherwise uninformed crowd that this unit can be used to record 24 tracks simultaniously with balanced ins/outs (to kill noise). Older analog tape decks for pro use all had balanced ins/outs, but they were for pros who knew what was going on.

D2424LV it is then.

Hey MCI2424, many thanks for your reply that seems to have cleared things up.I have decided to go for the new machine.
Cheers Mike... :)

I have a brand new unopened DVD-RAM drive for the D2424LV. If you are interested in buying it, send me a PM:)

Also, before you buy extra drives for the Fostex, read the manual. Not all drives work in it:)
