I actually have a few questions maybe some of you can answer for me.
I'm planning to purchase an SIAB soon (I've recorded on PC in the past, but I'm looking for portability now). I think I've narrowed my focus to the korg d1600mkII or the Tascam 2488.
here's a list of questions:
1) which unit has superior quality effects?
2) are software effects better than those found on either of these units (for instance those that come with Sonar 3 Producer)?
3) which has better sounding pre amps?
4) are these units relatively noise-free?
5) is it possible to create professional-sounding recordings on these units with just good mics and hard work/talent, or is it absolutely necessary to have an extra pre-amp, outboard effects, etc.?
I guess I have several other questions, though some of them overlap with the ones above. I was thinking of possibly buying one of these digital multitrackers primarily for recording, and then buying Sonar3 to mix on my computer, but only if the effects on the korg or tascam are inferior to software plug-ins. If the effects are decent, then I'd just as soon do all the work on the multitracker.
In case I do mix down on computer, my CPU and memory are more than sufficient, though my soundcard is nothing special...not sure if the soundcard has much of an impact at the mixing stage or not???
Hope you guys can help me.
