Sorry for the million questions, but this studio building gets complicated

I bought a AKG d12e and it sounds like your hitting a teaspoon against a tin pot. That is if you crank the gain...if you don't there's no sound at all. So the obvious troubleshoot is to turn on phantom power. Nada, same crap.

What do you think is wrong with this mic and is it "fixable" at a reasonable price?

Again, thanks in advance

What're you plugging it into?

BTW, phantom power won't make the difference between bad sound and good sound. If your mic needs phantom power, you'll get no sound without it. The D12 is a dynamic mic, so it does not need phantom power.

Weird, I pulled out the XLR to make sure there were no loose wires, there were none (that I could see) put it back together and now it works. Something weird, but obviously not the diaphram.

I guess you're done, then!

Don't you just hate it when things start working again for no discernable reason? Because you just know that they're going to fail again at the worst possible moment.

Hehe yup :) , but these dang mics are getting harder to find so I'll have to put up with it!

I bet it was the wires connecting to the actual XLR (in the plastic). You gotto take the whole thing apart to get at that so I didn't bother...I was just looking for obvious stuff. EZ fix replacing that part if it comes to it.
