I am trying to compare these two recorders. What i am wanting to do is set up a home studio that i can record at least 16 tracks at a time. I have a behringer mx2442 mixer that i can use with a standalone multitracking machine. i would also need to be able to go to live gigs and record. I have been looking at the Roland VS-2480 Workstation so that i dont have all of the outboard gear, but i want to look at this point of view so i could use some things i already have. for my situation, would i be best to get the fostex or the alesis?
It sounds great, and I love the detachable control panel. It has all the functions and controls including level meters and a punchin jack on the end of a 15 pin standard computer cable. You can extend it 20 or 30 ft or more?
I just bring the control panel into the drum room with me for overdubs, or slide over to the keyboard on my desk to add a synth part...
It puts everything in reach and makes recording quicker.
I have the earlier D160 (16 trk 16 bit version) with the VC-8 AD/DA converter and really I can't fault it. If I were to upgrade it would be to another Fostex.
