Cyber Monday - gift for me: Line 6 UX2 or is there something better.

Hi,
I've got a nice laptop that I believe is up to the task, now I'm shopping interfaces. Still new to this stuff, but my research so far leads me to believe that the UX2 might fit my needs.

Most of the time this will just be me laying down 2 or 3 tracks. Maybe 2 guitars and a vocal.
I'm mostly doing acoustic stuff these days, but will certainly pick up the electric again.

A friend is using the UX2 and he loves it. I've read, the price is right, and I'm ready to pull the trigger but wanted some other opinions.

Another huge demand from me will be group recording. Again, mostly acoustic...probably a banjo, 2 guitars, and/or bass, and vocals.

Will this get the job done. How is latency with this thing? Should I be looking at other products? MOTU...etc.?

I've read super satisfied reviews about the TC Electronic Impact Twin and there's one in the b/s/t right now, as we speak. I've been thinking about looking into that interface, myself.

If you want to record 3/4 instruments (+ vocals) at the same time you will need an interface that allows that many separate simultaneous tracks. It's not readily shown how many separate tracks/inputs the UX2 will do, but I suspect it is no more than 2.

the Line 6 UX2 looks cool but my only real concerns would be just how much emphasis they put on the fact that it's got Podfarm2 and built in electric guitar tones. IDK, to me it seems a bit gimmicky and very much aimed at people who just wanna plug an electric guitar straight into the box and record. If that's your plan then it should be perfect. I had a couple of students with the older toneport (which, by the looks of it, the new UX2 has replaced) and they loved it for just plugging an electric guitar straight in and recording but i never heard anything from them about the mic pres etc.

Also, when you say group recording, do you mean all at the same time or recording the parts separately? The UX2 will do 3 channels simultaneously by the looks of it, but that's only 2 mics and an instrument straight in (i don't think you can use both instrument inputs at the same time)

For the same price things like the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB and Presonus Audiobox 22VSL are both great AI's, or if you want 4 mic inputs at once then the Presonus Audiobox 44VSL and Alesis io4 both look great
