Cuttin songs out of a long recording

We recorded a live 90 minute performance on my 2488 MKII. I've cut a couple of songs out of the performance but they are still showing the same size as the original recording (over 5 gig). I'm quickly running out of disk space.

Why would they still be the same size as the original recording?
