Currently use Rode NT5 on only instruments....is it worth getting AKG c214?

Hello,

I mostly record acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and some other precussion instruments. No vocals. I use a rode NT5 small diaphram condensor.

Since I mainly just use one mic to record these insruments I was thinking of investing in one really good mic for instruments. This rode microphone has beeb really good, but I am interested in what kind of sound I could get from a large diaphram condensir, like the akg c214.

Since I mostly record instruments, would I be better off just using the rode NT5 or would the akg c214 or something similar beat the nt5 on instruments.
 
I believe you would be better off with the AKG c214, it can be used both for the instruments and vocals, so if you ever use it on vocals, you've got one.
 
What you will get is flexibility, sometimes the 214 will be the mic, on other instruments the NT5 will be the mic. It also gives you the option of using both at the same time. You can never have enough mics LOL.

How did you end up with ONE NT5 - aren't they only sold as matched pairs?

If that's your only mic, I'd be saving up and getting a decent LDC and a decent dynamic (SM57 will do fine) to cover all your bases...
