Hi, I have VST32 installed with a dongle on a PC for audio recording. My midi arrangements are done on another laptop (it has no LPT1, only USB).Is there a way to install a copy of VST on the laptop to use only with midi, without the dongle? The dongle uses LPT1.
Thanks.

webelite - if you want to be dongle free and your open minded.
try powertracks from pgmusic.com.
superb midi (and audio sequencer) for 49 bucks that does
48 tracks. just the midi editing, notation, and thousands of other features
are a steal imho. just try the demo if you think i'm lying.
magix music studio is another one i use and recommend you try as well.
(also no dongle).
keep an open mind and i think youll be surprised.
peace.

Why?

Why do you keep recommending Powertracks from pgmusic.com in this Cubase Forum. I don't get it. Surely, it's help with Cubase that this guy needs - that's what he uses! Or am I being too 'patriotic' to Steiny?

HB16.

hbean - ive used all sorts of audio software.
he mentioned the dongle aspect. i gave an option to be dongle free.
thats all. no big woof.
i also make the suggestions i make based on knowing not all folks are aware of other options.
all he need do to be an informed consumer is to try the other options i listed. they might be suitable for his needs. they might not.
some people are open minded - others arent. just human nature.
ive been thanked by many and jumped on by many.
just life.
bean - just try my suggestions for yourself if you think i'm lying.

I have to side with hbean on this one manning1. You seem to suggest trying Powertracks to everyone regardless of the question or the forum for that matter. People aren't ignorant and can find what's available using google or any of the other search engines. What you're doing almost amounts to spamming. Do you work for or get a commission from them?

morningstar. i get nothing from pg music. i have no affiliations CATEGORICALLY WITH ANY VENDOR of musical gear.
i'm just a computer engineer( i made my money in the computer industry years ago) with my own daw set up.
actually pg's weakness imho is that a lot of people dont know about the product. particularly newbies.
as i said if you think i'm lying. just try the demo.
most peoples reactions on trying the product frankly is surprise.
the only reason i post is i see a lot of musicians struggling,
and i try to offer options to make their lives easier.
whats the matter with that ?
why do people always assume the worst in people ?
i'm totally above board. frankly i wouldnt work for a music equipment vendor
anyway. the computer industry pays way better than schlepping gear !!

Woh man, nobody thinks your lying. It does seems like you don't get it though. Nobody is asking for this software your soliciting and the starving musician - easier life routine is just more hype and type. Why do people always assume people always assume the worst in people ? j/k It's no big deal. I get spammed everyday and just click it away. By the way, what's the DAW that you made your living on?

morningstar. my daw is amd plus powertracks and magix music studio running on it. all i'll ever need for years to come. the line "i made my money etc....' i should have explained more clearly.
i made my money years ago building big computer systems/networks for big govts and businesses. i also ran a recording studio for many years recording folks and helping them get their songs down. originally tape based now daw based.
i'm now sort of semi retired. my wife retires soon i hope, and we can live a peacefull life and have fun. i use my daw to write my own songs and help others where i can. recently i used powertracks to record a young group. which was a lot of fun and mixdown to cd.
all the best to you. happy recording.

i'm now sort of semi retired and I spam this board with advertisements for powertracks.

A search for your username and the word powertracks brings up 199 posts. Alot of the posts have nothing to do with software at all, yet you seem to be able to squeeze in the powertracks line on all of them. Sometimes more than once per post even. Seems like spam to me.

Better watch it, DJL is going to get you. :D

NYMorningstar, thanks for your agreement.

Manning, I've downloaded Powertracks as I told you in another thread. OK, I haven't installed it yet - I told you I'd try it soon - but I'm going to do so *now*.

Then I'll post my opinion here so maybe those 199 posts of yours will be justified. But DO please remember that this Forum is for Cubase. I believe you genuinely want to help people, and I take your word for it that you've got no axe to grind with the people who make Powertracks. But you must admit it looks odd that you keep posting recommendations to it all over the place.

Anyway, I'll let you know...

Bean.

thats fine hb. if you do a REVIEW of it - just make sure its THOROUGH.
particularly go into it in depth. because there is lots to discover.
its very deep.
i have no axe to grind. be as critical as you want.
make sure you go into the midi in depth, and audio side, and the built in effects. and the audio editing. go ahead. have fun. if you find better for the price i'll get it. but i have not found anything better for the money.
i look forward to your review. just make sure its in depth for fairness.
because there are so many features.
dawg - i'm not spamming. i just believe fervently in the product.
the reason i include what you consider spam is purely there are a lot of newbies reading forums and they are not aware of all thats in this market segment.

When people come here looking for assistance with a particular issue with software they own and are using, recommending another program is not proactive IMO. That's the point trying to be made here. You add the Powertracks "canned message" to nearly every post you are making here and other forums as well. A prime example of what I'm getting at:

http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=133091

The guy's taking a Cubase course, wants to know about what version of Cubase to get, and you recommend Powertracks. I don't get it.

If someone has an issue with Cubase and needs help, why would they want to read about trying another program? It's silly. If someone bought Cubase, they're not going to dump it and switch to a new program.

No, I am not on a campaign against you (you have been helpful), just please, lighten up on the Powertracks stuff for a bit. We've all been made well aware of it. Heck, I actually downloaded the demo to try out. I don't have time right now to dig in to it's wealth of deep, deep features, but I may someday soon.

Ciao.

I've installed it, had a brief look and watched the intro-video. I must say it looks very interesting, but very sincerely I won't have time to do a review of it here. I simply have too much to do, and I haven't really got around to trying it properly anyway.

You're *not* wasting your time in recommending it but, as warble says, we all know about it by now... ;)

I'm becoming a posting addict and must stop - there's music to do...

warble - no problem. i'll lighten up as you say.
all the best to you. in my defense the original poster seemed to have a problem with dongles and seemed irritated. thats the only reason i responded.

hb - two tips. when you install make sure you identify your drivers
and "move devices to the top" that you want to use.
also Ty"track type " is important. by clicking the midi plug icon on each track. it changes from a midi track to a mono wave or stereo wave.
peace.

Wow! It's like watching a movie - just need to get the popcorn, watching you guys going at each other here..anyway, thanks for the responses and advice. Both sides have a point - I might have a look at that other suggested software..don't know if I want to dish out extra bucks as I already have (bought) VST and like it's midi section anyway. The problem is that it is installed on a PC in my small control room, but my midi recording is done on a laptop next to the keyboard in the studio section where there is space. If not too pricy, the usb -> lpt convertor might be a solution..just hope it works..I once tried a usb -> serial convertor on the same laptop to use a Roland serial driver for my sound module..no joy.
Later,
Eben
