Call me slow for not moving up the os ladder but it is the weak link(or so I am finding out more and more) in my daw. I have been using Cubase VST32 v5.0 since it first came out and I am quite happy with the interface and all. I also use WaveLab 4. My hardware is current with no issues. I have been using win98se and as I grow my os is limiting me to new software I would like to use in addition. My question is what kind of problems can I expect if I run this software under win2000 if any or for that matter is it even possible?

Any assistance on this would be great. have already done a google on it and came up with nothing.

I dont think you should run into any problems, 2000 is a more stable program than 98se

i ran win2000 and cubase vst - sx2.0 for years without any problems. BUT

I would highly recommend upgrading to XP - pro

I upgraded from 2000 to XP a couple of months ago and have noticed

1. progs running faster
2. faster boot
3. latency drop from 115 ms to 11 ms
4. less probs with progs (especially cubase sx2.0 didnt like 2000)...

I recommend a clean install - ie., back up all needed files (my documents, saved projects and such), delete-format harddrive, clean install XP from nothing (the cd can boot from cd drive).

most newer progs (wavelab 4.0, vst32 5.0) - will easily install into the new OS... and most hardware companies (for your A/D converter) have stopped updating drivers for old OS's

I am using a P4 2.4 but it sped up my old 450mhz as well ...

best option = many universities sell XP as student software for cheap$$$

I had a random student pick one up for me for $10 (i bought him a beer for the effort)..

sorry for the long post, hope this helps
