Cubase tracking issue

Fairly new to Cubase - but I did spend some time with the supplied manual.

I'm using it with a Firepod - tonight my wife, daughter, and I practiced for next Sunday by tracking both of their voices and my bass along with an mp3 track. Here's the deal - I set all channels up for the Firepod just fine - all levels set and coming through the PA well (for monitoring). Did a sample cut of a few words and/or notes of each track...no problem, Cubase recorded everything and played it back fine.

Now we start the MP3 track, click record on Cubase...start playing, singing - everything looks great! Right up until we stop the MP3 and stops recording on Cubase with the transport panel and WOOSH....there's nothing there for the recorded tracks....nada.

Tried this 4 times - finally opened Sonar 5....enabled three tracks, clicked play on the MP3, record on Sonar...and no issues - everything tracked and played back just fine.


I really, really want to figure this out as I like Cubase's interface and general flow better...but I've got to be able to depend on it.

Click on the monitor icon (lil' speaker) in your track. That should work if your recorded audio wav files are showing up.

First make sure every track you try to record to is record enabled (the little red dot button), but since you've already managed to record stuff, I don't think that's the problem.

Secondly, Cubase has this thing where it start to record on a track once you hit the record button, but when it's done it does a very quick analysis of the recording and if it finds that it's empty (meaning silence, only a tiny bit of noise), it dumbs the track. This is anoying since even though there's something wrong beforehand, it looks like everything is all right at first glance. Check your signal chain, dubble check the record enable buttons and monitor buttons and try again.
 
What's worked best so far...

Is to just import/convert the audio file into an assigned track within the program. Got this from someone in Germany on the support forum....

So far, Cubase hasn't "lost" any more recorded material keeping everything organic to the program.
