I've always done my compression after tracking sending the original track through the output and running the compressed signal back in. I've always just 'lived with' hearing the original track while hearing the new track being recorded. How do i make it so I can't hear the original track at the same time? I'm sending it through a new bus, but the signal is still being sent through the original bus as well.

what do i do?
thanks,
T

Use the inserts for the compression plugs - this makes them "in-line", which is what you seem to be asking for.

Insert are great if you just want to "do" something to de signal. Color it, make it fatter, wider etc. If you want to add something too it, or use it to do something else, you can use your way, or use sends/returns. Like reverb, I don't want that in my origional track most of the time, since I still want to be able to change it later on. But EQ or compression works fine on an insert.

Send the channel to the buss, don't use the aux sends to route the channel.

what do you mean? I'm sorry i don't get the difference.

thanks

I believe he means you should route the channel's output directly to the new buss, and dont use a 'send' to do it.
