Cubase SX Audio Editor (I can't see but one lane)

Hi guys,

I'm a fairly new user of Cubase SX. I've done a video tutorial and read through a lot of the help section in the program. There's one feature that I have decided I must be too stupid to figure out - in the audio editor, I'm supposed to be able to get "lanes". This is described in the "Getting the Perfect Take" section of help for when you record in cycle mode, then have the ability to assemble your takes together by viewing them above another (in lanes). Currently, I can only see my one audio track in the editor.

Also, I've seen another guy work in Cubase, and he had the ability to select several different parts and open them at the same time in the audio editor (again - the parts are shown in lanes). He might have been using a different version of Cubase, but I'm not sure.

OK, here's where we try to figure out what in the world I'm missing here. In the help section, it says the lanes should be visible (this is from memory, so it's not word for word...) if I zoom out while in the audio editor. Well, when I zoom out, lanes do not appear - the wave simply changes size/appearance. I read something that said I needed to go to "view" and then click "separate events" (or something like that), but there is no "view" menu that I know of.

Please tell me I've just missed something simple and it's an easy fix!! Thanks for the help guys.

You need to widen the track that you want to use to assemble the "perfect take" . What I mean is on the left side you can use your mouse to adjust the width of the info section (where the record button is) or the height of it.

Once you do that you should see a button that you can click on that allows multiple takes on that track. I forget what button it is but if you hover over it I think it tells you.

The parts that you keep gets highlighted in a different color. I've used it a couple of times and it works well..

Hmm.... I was unable to get this way to work. No button for me!

I'm wondering if this feature is not in Cubase SX - my friend that showed me the "lanes" was using Cubase VST 5.1 (I think...I know it wasn't SX). The reason why I think it is an option is becaues the help section in SX details the "How to Assemble the Perfect Take", and it specifically references the lanes. I can't imagine they'd tell us how to do something that's not even in the program!!

Anyone out there that uses SX have lanes in the audio editor? Anyone in SX been able to do the cycle record mode & combine takes?

Thanks!!

No it works in SX.. As I said I've used it a few times. When I'm at home I'll take a look at how I set it up to work and let you know, if your still interested..

That would totally rule!! Thanks a ton!

Hey nickgrimmer, sorry I took so long to get back to you.

I tested it out just now. All I had to do was expand the lane and click on a button that allows you to select what type of lanes you want. I selected Lanes fixed and clicked on record. Then I went back to the beginning of the track and clicked record again and a new recording was started underneath it. Check out the attachment to see if that helps explain it a bit better. The parts that are highlighted in green are the ones that will get played back.

Pardon my crude paint skills !

Ah ha!! I think that should work!!! I never knew about that button. I'll try it out tonight - thanks a ton!!

Well, I just tried it out, and I really must have a different version or something. Mine is 1.02...I don't have that cool little button.

On a side note, I did determine that if I make it a "part", then it has the lanes, but I'm having difficulty working with them - I can not get anything but the highest lane to be "on top" even when I right click and tell it to put the other one on top. Hmm....

What version are you running?

Running Cubase SX 2.33....But I think it was there before I upgraded to the latest update.

Just so I'm sure - Are you using Cubase SX 2 or SX 1 ?

Only other thing I can think of is that on the transport bar there are a couple of options. I'm not in front of my DAW right now so I can't remember the options..
