cubase se and sx

I bought a book called Cubase Sl/SX 2.0 Power.But I cant afford either so Im thinking of purchasing SE Hybrid.Is there much difference in the layout,operation ect? Will the book help me?I have Cakewalk and thinking of switching.

Mike - I have that book and SE. Nearly all of it applies. There are a few features that SE doesn't have (like Trutape) but it's 90% relevant. Are there any particular reasons you're thinking of switching?
 
I find the documentation with cakewalk Difficult at best.I used to play around with sx 1.0 and I liked it.Since I dont believe in using BL software I only have 2 options, Cakewalk HS and Cubase SE.Why do you ask.Maybe theres something else I should know?

No particular reason, except that from all I read Cakewalk HS is pretty good and wondered why you'd want to put yourself through a new learning curve. Note that Cubase SE does not have the same audio processing engine as the new SX and S versions, which I think is the main reason it's so much cheaper. I didn't mention that in my earlier reply because you were asking about the user interface.
 
I think getting Se would be a good move.

I had SE...then i saved £100 and upgraded to SL. and soon i will be upping to SX

its fully upgradable, and SE can do lots of stuff.

all in all Cubase is meant to be better than Cakewalk and for what I have seen and heard i would defently not switch from Cubase to Cakewalk.

I would say get Cubase SE and you will have lots to work with, and when you want you can upgrade.

all i will say is if you do upgrade give your self lots of time as Steinberg are not the most ogranised with there records and admin work....allthough im sure buy now they must have had so many complaints that they might be getting it together now....one would like to think so anyway
