Cubase & ReWire

Hi all...me again.

Anyway, I'm attempting to use ReWire with Reason & Cubase SE. Now, what I want to do is to make a drum pattern in Reason with Redrum. I then want to route that drums pattern to Cubase and record it onto a track there. I went to cubase.net to ask but no one there replies to me...and when they do, it's with an unhelpful comment like "read the manual", well I HAVE read the manual and I can't read anything there about how to record drum patterns from Reason.

Can anyone help me out? Help would be appreciated.

either....if MIDI will give me the playback whenever i need it, and ability to export it to final mixdown, then sure.
 
i dont know about recording the midi, but have you got reason be controlled by cubase? do the reason channels show up on your mixer, cos if you hit record it should record the audio on a channel
 
in cubase you can't do an "internal record" like in Ableton Live. set your locators and use file-->"export audio". in the export audio window you can make a chek mark by "inport audio in project" or similary field.

$a1Ty: yes...it is controlled by cubase. just not sure how to get the audio info for the drum machine from reason to cubase.

kaufi: i somewhat understand... so is there no hope? i really need drums, and i like redrum better then cubase's built in drum machine
 
why you want to do an "internal record" of your drums? CPU hungry? I don't understand the sense. All should work with your settings. And don't forget: you can use 16 audiostereo channels from Reason to Cubase. (for example: channel 1 for your BassDrum, channel 2 for your Snare drum, channel 3 for hihats, ... and so on )

Me use NI Battery2 in Cubase (but as a VSTi, not Rewire) it works fine.
 
When I hit record, no MIDI information from my drum machine in Reason is being sent to Cubase.

I'm not sure if it's actually an internal record...Maybe I have the in/out settings on the MIDI channel in Cubase wrong? I have the 'in' set as Reason Redrum, and nothing connected as out...is that wrong?
 
Midiinput in Cubase must be your Midikeyboard, Midioutput must be your VSTi in reason. If you push record on a midichannel in Cubase, you record your Midikeyboard (midinotes from your Midikeyboard). The cubasemidichannel send it to the reason vstichannel (your midioutput on your midichannel). Reason lead the audio back to cubase ("devices"--> "Reason" [or similary] you can choose how much audiochannels from Reason to Cubase you want to activate) " , but you can not record this audio. But you can use the "export audio" function, and do a check mark by "import audio in current project".

On the one hand, in cubase you can't do "internal record", on the other hand the export function ist much faster, because you don't have wait the whole playtime
 
Hmm....so you're saying I can't record without actually playing the notes on my keyboard? I just want to make the pattern in Reason and have it record that pattern....I guess it's impossible, eh?

Here is my loop in Redrum, in Reason.

I want to record this loop, WHILE IT'S PLAYING, onto a track on Cubase.

My mixer in SE. As you can see, the Redrum IS being recognized by Cubase. However, I want it to be on it's own channel (Drums) and recorded onto it.

Does that help clarifty things?
 
I know what you mean, but how I've said, "internal record" is not possible in Cubase, and what you want to do, is "internal record". There are some other sequencers out which can do that, but the best (and also the best after cubase) is ableton live. - maybe in CubaseSX4

kaufi's right. Live is the first piece of software that i've seen that allows you to choose another channel in that program as an input source. in something like cubase, the only audio inputs are from your card/desk...ie microphones, instruments, etc.

far as i can see, recording MIDI isn't going to help, cos you want the Reason sound, so forget about MIDI recording.

although i've never used it before, i think ReWire might be the way. read this: http://www.propellerheads.se/technologies/rewire/index.cfm?fuseaction=mainframe and give it a go.

otherwise, you need to patch the drums out of your machine and back in again using real cables. ReWire does this "internally"...it's like an audio transfer protocol, and Cubase SE does have use it. good luck =]
 
Just put your loop markers around one bar of the drums solo'd and do an audio export

This is the way I've been doing it. You can also seperate your Reason drum kit into seperate pieces by muting and using audio export. Not sure if this is the easiest or most effect way to get the drum tracks down but it has been working for me.
 
Aw damn...yeah, I guess the Audio Export IS the only way. Meh, i guess it will suite my needs for now.

I hope they add internal recording to a new version of Cubase soon.
