Hi All, just joined.
I used to do a lot of recording a few years back, I had a basic old laptop which I used just for music, nothing else, and ran Cubase SL for audio recording and Reason 2.0 for MIDI (gorgeous). But it was always a difficult setup because cubase and reason refused to talk to each other so I had to export wav files from reason - long winded but got great results.
I now want to start again but I think the first thing to do is replace the laptop. At the same time my main home pc also needs replacing. With a budget of £500 to £600 total, is it still better to keep a dedicated music machine or with faster and more robust machines these days, would i be better using the whole budget to just buy one much faster laptop?
I'll probably need to upgrade the software too but i want to get the machine right first.
Thanks, Jez
