i currently using cubase for recording. But then i discovered that m-audio now offers protools for 300$.Is this worth the switch to protools and if so why? thanks

Not in my opinion, unless you're unhappy with Cubase and you think that protools has something which will make up for it.

Also be aware that Protools M Powered is only compatible with selected M Audio products, not all of them.

Our friends at Digidesign are making the hoops a bit bigger, the hoops are still there though.

I had a Digi 002R and it was cool but I sold it because I liked the way Cubase ran, I started with SE just because I had clients that was using that software. then I upgraded to SL3 I sold the 002R and SL3 was even better, Now I just purchased the upgrade to SX3 last night( all done in 6 months ) and I cant imagine whats it is going to be like..... Dont get me wrong I like Pro tools just not LE If I had the money I would get a full blown Pro Tools HD rig.

The main advantage of Pro Tools is portability to other studios. Its also a more recognized platform if you are selling your services to other people. I also got the job I have now partly because I know pro tools- for better or worse, it has a large presence in low to mid grade studios.

So if any of that is worth $300, it might not be a bad thing to concider.

Well If I had a project come through my studio and it was in the Pro Tools format and if the money was right then I would go out and get the M powered Pro Tools for $300. I already know how to work it but I just prefer Cubase
