I have a legit version of Cubase 3.7 VST which I can't get to run on Win XP (says  there is no ASIO driver or audio engine). A friend has given me a pirate copy of SX3. If I buy the USB dongle (seen it online for £17), will it come with the product key and alow me to use Cubase SX3?

Why don't you go ask Steinberg what they think about that idea?

I'm sure some others here will think of a few more colorful things you can do also.

Yes but you need to buy 2 a day. Dongles self destruct every 12 hours so make sure you buy a big supply of them.

i've heard you can do that, but you have to insert the dongle at least three inches into your anus before it'll work.....

Thankyou for your kindness. I would prefer to use my legit version of 3.7 on win xp, but do not know how to do it. I don't imagine for one minute that you would wish to help.

Clearly your mission in life is to help others! Bless you my child.

Clearly you have had a lot of experience of this and no doubt a lot of pleasure. I prefer to keep my dongles where I can see them.

Seems to me like your head is already so far up your ass that you could put the dongle 6 or more inches up there and still clearly see it.

that is why you email or ring technical support !!! :D

Fair comment. I don't really need all the features of modern cubase products, I just want to transfer audio from a Roland VS1880 onto a PC so that I can burn the audio to CD and and hoped that my antique version of cubase would oblige.
Do you know how I can get around this problem of "no asio driver and no native audio engine available"?

Do I need to remove windows XP and re-install Win 98? Help would be much appreciated.

Why don't you just use a free tool like Audacity?

Or Reaper... Perhaps the ultimate shareware el-cheapo audio app ever.

Crap if that's all you need to do you could download 1 of 100 different freeware apps. Do a freaking search; www.google.com

Goldwave was free at one time.... it may still be available.

I think the ASIO driver is your soundcard. So I would try uninstalling then reinstalling your soundcard driver and also do the same for Cubase.
Dont repair, uninstall totally then reinstall.

Do other mixing programmes work fine with your computer?

Level of Courtesy

It's amazing the level of professionalism and courtesy that is afforded the person who originally posted this thread. Instead of coaxing him to invest a small amount of money he is bashed for trying to figure out cracked software. You know who you are; GROW UP!

Now for a bit of an answer. Cubase SE goes for about $100, that is a great program that works fine for anything that I've needed. However, I believe that your problem is the soundcard driver as a previous reply suggested. You should be able to go to the website and get the driver for your card. Then you also have to select that ASIO driver in a setup screen. In VST 3.5 I'm not sure of where it is exactly but look for preferences or audio setup in the menus, perhaps help and search ASIO for where the screen to set this parameter is. I've used Cubase for a long time now, several versions so if you need more help PM me and I'll get back to you with an answer. Thanks,

I'm a jackass

I don't come here to be either professional or nice.... I come here to be real. I come here for fun, to learn, and to give advice if I can. I think lots of people that come here on a regular basis feel they have the right to help as they see fit.

It may not be the nicest approach but it is helpful for people to know that cracked software is not respected. Likewise... users of cracked software get no respect. Furthermore people who stick-up for crack-heads have no respect for the industry.

Oh... by the way. It has nothing to do with the sound card. Steinberg stoped supporting that version of Cubase last century. It is not compatible with Windows XP (or ME as well as I remember).

If you don't want to buy it... dont. Use some freeware and move on.
