Cubase or Logic? Should I make the move?

I am a hobby songwriter. I don't play guitar, so I've my songs have often ended up going down the orchestra route to make up for the lack of guitar. I have always used Cubase/Nuendo on a PC, with Sampletank, Philharmonik, Symphonic Choirs and various other stuff.

Now, I've bought an iMac. (pause for gasps of horror.....) I know, I know, but I'm sick to death of Microsoft and their reboots, crashes, endless updates, etc. But this post isn't about I'm a Mac, I'm a PC.

It's about Cubase and Logic. I know very little about Logic, and I'm wondering if it might be a good time to cross to it now that I'm going Mac?

Just the basic pros and cons would be good - I'm sure you all have some pretty strong and varied opinions! Remember - I'm only at hobby level really, so try not to bombard me with high end tech!

They're both good - you will probably find either will do the job and it's more down to personal preference. I think Logic might have stronger built in plugins (this is what I've gleaned from reading other people's posts). Note that Cubase is primarily designed for PC and doesn't (or didn't - dunno about the latest version) fully utilise multi-core CPUs (IIRC), so Mac Cubase probably won't give you the same level of performance as on PC. However, many people on here use it successfully on Mac.

May I recommend Reaper as a cheap alternative to both of these ?

The more I read, the more I get the impression that Logic is a better option on the Mac, and your post further leads me that way. I guess it's down to whether I can learn to use Logic without too much hassle - I'm trying not to be in the "Better the devil you know" frame of mind.

I've never really looked at Reaper - thanks for the tip, i'll go and do some reading!
